Accra GPRTU supports Korle-Bu accident centre with two water tanks

The Greater Accra Regional branch of the umbrella body of commercial drivers in the country, Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) has presented two water tanks to the management of the Accident Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in the Accra metropolis to boost the supply of water to the centre especially during times of emergency operations.

The association aside the two tanks also presented some assorted items to the centre which forms part of the association’s preparations towards the upcoming regional election of new executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.

The assorted items and two tanks worth several hundreds of Ghana Cedis included fifty packets of toilet rolls, thirty packets of tissue papers, ten gallons of liquid detergents, liquid soaps, cake soaps, wheelchairs, a microwave and fifty cans of Malt and soft drinks among others.

Presenting the items to the Head of the Orthopaedic Department at the Accident Centre, Dr Frederick Kwarteng in the presence of the beehive of members dressed in the association’s cloth; the Regional Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Nii Ankrah said the items are the widow’s mite of members in the region to further ensure that accident victims are properly catered for when brought to the centre for treatment.

According to him, the presentation of the two poly tanks is meant to boost the water supply and delivery needs of the centre.

He said members of the association had the information that water supply to the centre is a challenge especially when patients who have been involved in accidents are going through surgery.

‘We quickly took the decision to have that challenged resolved as part of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the commuting public in the region", Mr Nii Ankrah as he is affectionately called by members said.

Mr Emmanuel Ankrah who is seeking re-election as the Regional Chairman for the association explained that the gesture was to assist the centre to better cater for the drivers and passengers who find themselves in the unfortunate situation of an accident in the region.



In remark after receiving the items on behalf of the centre, Dr Frederick Kwateng thanked the leadership of the association for the gesture and further called on well-meaning Ghanaians to come to the aid of the premier accident centre to enable it better serve accident victims in the country.

He revealed that there are a lot of things wrong with the ambience of the centre and support is highly needed to correct all these anomalies at the centre.

He took the opportunity to congratulate the leadership of the association for being a human-centred organization.

He said the issue of scarcity of water to the centre has been the bane of worry to the managers of the centre over the past couple of years.

He explained that because of water supply, patients who need Plaster of Paris (POP) services are unable to be served at the centre.

He added that for the association to come to the aid of the centre by solving the acute water supply problem of the centre is a laudable feat that will go a long way in boosting health delivery at the centre.
