Accra Brewery Limited engages stakeholders on road safety and responsible drinking

Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), producers of a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, has engaged stakeholders on road safety and responsible drinking.

A statement signed by Ms. Adwoa Aaba Arthur, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the workshop highlighted ABL’s Smart Drinking & C.A.R.E. campaign which forms part of commitment to invest in a Healthier World, where every experience with beer is positive.

It was held on the theme: “Drink Responsibly Today to Safeguard Tomorrow”.
The statement said the workshop would help create the requisite awareness and serve as a guide to participants and all Ghanaians to always drink responsibly and stay safe on the roads.

She urged participants to live by ABL’s Smart Drinking and C.A.R.E. message in order to save lives on the roads during the Easter holidays, and to help reduce fatalities on the roads.

The statement said Superintendent Samuel Sasu-Mensah of the Ghana Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) who gave a presentation on “Drink Driving” explained that drivers with Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) levels exceeding 0.08 per cent would be prosecuted.

He said during the Easter holiday, police officers would mount various check-points nationwide and conduct random breathalyser tests on drivers, suspected to be intoxicated and driving.

Ms. Catherine Hamilton, Greater Accra Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) commended ABL for its Smart Drinking & C.A.R.E. campaign.

She urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and road safety regulations, adding that the NRSC would increase its effort to educate drivers on road safety.

Mr. Thomas Nintori of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) also urged drivers to ensure that their vehicles functioned properly in order to help reduce accidents on our roads.

He encouraged vehicle owners to use DVLA’s mobile services and premium services in order to reduce the operations of middle men who dissuaded Ghanaians from dealing directly with the Authority.

Present at the workshop were representatives from the respective drivers’ unions of Odawna, Obra Spot, Circle UTC Taxi Branch, and the Adabraka Cooperative Transport Society.

At the end of the workshop, the drivers’ union commended ABL for organising the workshop and also providing an opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss future partnerships with government to help improve the conditions on the roads.
