An accountant who was discovered to have forged stamps of Bank of Ghana to steal over 9 million Ghana cedis has been literally left off the hook.

According to host of Adom FM's Morning Show, Captain Smart, the accountant who works at the Western regional secretariat of the Nursing and Midwife Council (NMC) collected monies totalling 9.6 million cedis between May, 2013 and December 2014.

These monies were supposed to be lodged into a designated account at the Bank of Ghana, however, the accountant whose name was withheld, forged stamps to create the impression that he had deposited the monies while he kept them for himself.

"The Western regional accountant failed to account for revenue amounting to 9,682, 000 Ghana cedis collected for the period May, 2013 to December 2014.

"Additionally, we noted forged Bank of Ghana stamp on some pay-in slips supposedly used for lodgement of cash to the bank.

"We recommended to management to recover the amount involved with interest at the prevailing bank rate and take disciplinary action against the accountant as provided in regulation eight of the Financial Administration Regulation", he quoted portions of the 2015 Auditor General's report as saying.
