Accident cases reduced in 2010 in KEEA

Cape Coast, Feb.22, GNA - The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) district branch of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) recorded 93 accident case last year as against 146 in 2009. Sergeant Williams Agbemafo told the GNA that 123 vehicles were involved in motor accidents last year as against 120 in 2009 and gave the break down of the vehicles involved as 73 commercial, 45 private cars and five motor bikes. He said last year, 27 people died as a result of the accidents compared to 54 in 2009 while 93 people including children sustained injurie= s and 28 pedestrians were knocked down. He attributed the high number of pedestrian knock downs to lack o= f speed ramps from the Elmina junction to the Komenda junction on the Cape Coast/Takoradi highway and called for the immediate provision of speed ramps. Sergeant Agbemafo said from January to date the MTTU had recorded 1= 7 accidents with one death and 12 injuries in the district.
