Abuakwa parish choir reconstituted after 34 members die

Abuakwa (Ash), June 20, GNA - The Abuakwa Saint Peter's Catholic Parish Choir, which was wiped off completely about a month ago when all its 34 members lost their lives in a fatal motor accident at the Akropong Junction on the Kumasi-Sunyani trunk road on their way to a funeral at nearby Akwaboah, has been reconstituted.

The new choir, formed at Abuakwa at the weekend, this time has a membership of 36, selected from communities making up the parish: Sepaase, Abuakwa, Apatrapa, Maakro and Atwima-Mim.

Mr Stephen Osei-Poku, Abuakwa Parish Catechist, who disclosed this to the GNA on Monday said contrary to expectations that most parishioners would feel reluctant to join the choir, the new members were imbued with renewed enthusiasm and drive in the belief that those who perished were now "resting in the bosom of Abraham".

He said the new choir was more poised to sing to the glory of God and evangelise the world to emulate the good works of the departed souls.

About a month ago, 34 choristers belonging to the Abuakwa parish were killed when a Mercedes Benz 207 bus on which they were travelling from Abuakwa to Akwaboah collided head-on with an oncoming Intercity STC bus. The drivers of both vehicles also lost their lives.
