Junior High School form three (3) students have been advised to abstain from pre-marital sex in order to avoid bad consequences such as bad grades in their exams and teenage pregnancies. Evang. (Mrs) Cathy Onwiduokit, President of Family Renaissance Inc, who said this was addressing a mentoring seminar held at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Kaneshie for all JHS 3 students in the Okaikwa South District.
Evang. Cathy informed the students of the gross effects of engaging in pre-marital sex and the associated dangers.
She touched on events and celebrations such as Valentine Day that have been touted by the media to mean a day for sexual activities. According to her, Valentine’s day is not a day to have sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend’. She admonished them to be weary of the negative influence of the media, friends and adults that may persuade them into such acts.
Ms Princess Sekyere, founder of PSM (Princess Sekyere Mission) said, she was touched by a publication in Daily Guide about the alarming rate of teenage pregnancies in JHS schools across the country especially the Western Region, where a total of 11, 071 teenage pregnancies where registered from January to September,2011.
A total of about 1088 students attended the seminar organized by PSM in collaboration with the Secretariat in charge of Okaikwe South Primary & JHS Schools.
