The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has reacted to a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit filed against him by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr Randy Abbey.
Speaking on his Ohia TV platform on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Abronye dismissed the suit and insisted he was not intimidated by any legal threats.
“I have heard that someone has filed a GH¢25 million defamation of character case against me. Do you know defamation of character? Nana Addo and Ken Ofori-Atta should have taken you to court first.
“We will meet in court; I am not afraid of the court. You people have taken me to court on several occasions, but nothing happens because whatever I say, I make sure I prove it,” Abronye said.
He further accused Dr Abbey of attempting to silence him, adding, “Those meetings you have had to threaten me with court to stop my utterances won’t work. You (Randy) said you have taken me to court for defamation, but do you even have a character for me to defame?”
Dr Abbey filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, seeking GH¢20 million in damages.
The suit stems from allegations made by Abronye during a public broadcast, where he accused the COCOBOD boss of misusing public resources and engaging in corrupt practices.
Court documents indicate that Abronye alleged Dr Abbey transported a personal chair from Accra to cocoa farms using several state-owned Land Cruisers, refusing to use chairs provided by farmers.

He also claimed that Dr Abbey manipulated internal appointments to facilitate the embezzlement of public funds.
Dr Abbey maintains that these statements, which were widely circulated on social media, are false, malicious and intended to damage his reputation.
In the suit, filed through COCOBOD’s Legal Department, Dr Abbey is seeking;
A declaration that Abronye’s comments are defamatory;
A retraction and unqualified apology published across all platforms where the allegations were made;
The removal of all defamatory content from the internet;
General, punitive, and compensatory damages amounting to GH¢20 million;
A perpetual injunction restraining Abronye from making further defamatory remarks;
Coverage of legal costs.
His legal team also emphasised that the allegations are baseless and aimed at tarnishing the reputation he has built through years of service.
