About 230 rural communities to get ICT centres

Dabaa-Ashanti, Nov. 25, GNA - The Ministry of Communications will complete the establishment of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) centres in 230 rural communities nation-wide next year. Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, the Sector Minister, who announced this in a speech read on his behalf, said the ministry had so far established 62 of the centres nationwide, at an ICT awareness forum organized by Supa Net Ghana, an Internet service provider.

The forum was attended by students from second-cycle institutions in the Ashanti region at Dabaa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district on Thursday.

Mr Kan-Dapaah was optimistic that establishment of the centres would enable rural dwellers have access to ICT to facilitate their development and activities.

The Sector Minister called for an effective public-private participation in the campaign to accelerate the country's socio-economic development through ICT.

"We must move from the old way of doing things and brainstorm to explore avenues that would make Ghana an integral part of the global village," He added.

Mr Kan-Dapaah indicated that his ministry would continue to help deprived areas in the country to have access to ICT to realize the nation's aim of reaching middle-income status by 2015. Mr Ofori Attah, Marketing Director of Supa Net Ghana, commended the Ministry of Communications for their support and dedication towards activities of the organization. 25 Nov.05
