Wulensi(N/R), June 10, GNA - The Campaign for Female Education (Camfed) Ghana, an NGO operating in the Northern Region, has registered a total of 1,384 out of school children in Nanumba South, for enrolment into school for the upcoming academic year which begins in September. The registration included children who have never been to school and those who had dropped but wants to return to school. Out of the total number, 717 were females while 667 were males. The registration of the children was part of the NGOs interactive learning programme of 'one goal of education for all initiative', which is aimed at contributing to quality education for all children of school going age.
The programme was in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The pupil's profiles had been handed over to the GES, while the parents of the children registered, endorse the initiative and commended Camfed for its programmes.
The children were made to develop interest in education by engaging them in computer games, football games, music and other entertainment forms to draw them to school.
The interactive leaning programme used the hiplife artist Obour, former Black Star players Mohammed Gargo, Shilla Illiasu and a female musician Mama Rams as the role models to encourage the children to take education as a good venture that could improve their lives.
Mrs. Dolores Dickson, Executive Director of Camfed Ghana, said the NGO was touched by the plight of the children who at the 21 century were left out of school, hence the need to register them for enrolment. She said the programme which was initially targeting 400 children who were out of school, registered more than it targeted, saying, "it is surprising to learn how many are still left out of school in this world of globalization".
Mrs. Dickson said mobile library carts with 600 storybooks for six primary partner schools and 2000 textbooks in ICT, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Literature books were presented to various schools, while 40 bicycles were given to some girls to assist them to travel to their schools.
She urged the parents of the children to develop much interest in the education of their wards for the growth of the country.
