Former Deputy Minister of Health under the previous NPP government, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has indicated that the violence and subsequent loss of the Ablekuma North seat to the Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC was part of a grand scheme.

In an interview with Asempa FM, shared on X on July 13, 2025, Okoe Boye stated that the alleged assault on Nana Akua Afriyie was a subtle attempt to intimidate her but she was spare of further brutality because of her gender as a female.

“You slap a vulnerable widow from the back. Why would you do that. Don’t be mistaken, some people can kill for power. Why would you do that? What has she done? I’m telling you that if Akua Afriyie was a male, she would have been brutally attacked.

“Their actions remind me of how King David killed Uriah for his wife Bathsheba. Do you remember what the prophet told him? You have many sheep but why do you kill one man for the single sheep he has? NDC has won 183 seats, why bully a mere widow for her seat. It is God that fights for the widow,” he lamented.

He alleged that same violence was tried on many other NPP MPs such as Jerry Ahmed and Abu Jinapor and even Frank Annor Dompreh.

“They tried it with Jerry Ahmed of Weija Gbawe but Jerry is a street boy and can fight off thousands of attackers so, the NDC was unsuccessful with their attempt to cheat him,” he said.

He warned that the NDC must be wary of such attempts to forcibly snatch seats from their political opponent because power is transient and hence, they must desist from such acts.

He slammed the NDC for alleged intimidation tactics to oppressed vulnerable persons like Nana Akua Afriyie who is a widow and turn around to organise National Day of Prayer terming such initiatives as hypocritical.
