Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called out President John Dramani Mahama for his silence regarding the violent clash that occurred during the Ablekuma North rerun on Friday, July 11, 2025.
His remarks follow the circulation of a widely shared video showing some NPP stalwarts being assaulted after storming polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency to support their candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie.
The footage has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an end to such violent political conduct.
According to Aboagye, he finds it surprising that the President has not yet commented on the incident, especially after members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Hawa Koomson, were attacked.
In a Facebook post dated July 13, 2025, Aboagye questioned the President’s silence—pointing out that Mahama had been quick to denounce similar incidents while in opposition.
He wrote, “It’s been 48 hours since the brutalities against journalists and Ghanaian citizens by NDC hoodlums. Our President of the Republic is yet to make a single statement. Faces are known; names are known of these hoodlums. Their acts, from entry to exit, are captured on video and audio, but the Ghana Police Service says they are investigating. No arrests yet. This is not good… This doesn’t look good. No one is safe in such a society.”
He further stated that if the attacks during the rerun were intended as retaliation, such actions are unjustified.
According to him, the NDC owes the NPP accountability, citing several past instances in which NPP members were attacked under NDC governments.
“The excuse? Retaliation. If retaliation is to be admitted, then the NDC owes the NPP three more of these before we’re even. It happened under the NDC in Talensi, Chereponi, Atiwa, Akwatia, and now Ablekuma. That makes it five brutalities under an NDC government. And on each of these occasions, nothing happened, not even a simple committee to investigate.
"Surely, Ablekuma should be different, and the President owes the people of this country the courtesy of taking decisive action on this matter,” he added.
