There was chaos at the Asiedu Gyedu Memorial School Awoshie 1 Polling Station, one of the 19 polling stations for the ongoing rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election at the Ablekuma North constituency.

GhanaWeb’s team on the ground captured the chaotic scenes at the polling station on Friday, July 11, 2025, which saw police officers clashing with men in plain clothing.

The men in plain clothing could be seen trying to stop a police officer who was walking away from them with an object in his hand.

About three of the men caught up with the policeman, grappling with him and trying to take the object out of his hand.

More of the men in plain clothes and the police officers joined in the tussle, creating a very chaotic scene.

The struggle between the policemen and the men in plain clothing continued for several minutes before calm was restored.

The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Theodore Hlormenu, who was at the scene of the incident, said that he did not have details of the person involved in the clash or what caused it.

He said that the situation was under control, adding that the area where the voting was taking place had been cordoned off by the police and was not affected by the clash.
