The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has directed for the cancellation of a planned welcome ceremony organised by staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of his return to Ghana.
According to a social media post made on Monday, March 30, 2026, Ablakwa stated that he is aware of arrangements for a surprise reception at the airport, which the ministry traditionally organises as a gesture to celebrate major national achievements.
While expressing appreciation for the initiative, he affirmed that he had directed management to cancel the plans, noting that the moment did not call for personal celebration.

“I would have strongly opposed the idea if I had been consulted. This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us,” he said.
He further appreciated the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their dedication and contributions to Ghana’s recent diplomatic efforts.
He also urged that the focus must remain on advancing the country’s interests on the global stage under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
