Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress Edem Agbana has said former President Mahama showed leadership by meeting with members of the Diplomats Corps over the Ayawaso by-election violence.

According to him, the meeting was meant to disabuse the Diplomats’ minds of the “lies” government told them about the Ayawaso By election violence, this time backed with audio- visual evidence.

Mr Mahama on Wednesday met and showed the members of the diplomatic community, videos and photos of the violence that happened during Ayawaso Wuogon by election. He showed them the gunshots, the injured persons and the physical assaults and the events leading to it.

Reacting to Mr Mahama’s meeting with the diplomats and his subsequent showing of the violent pictures to them, Mr Osafo-Maafo said the former President stooped low.

“This is unpatriotic and shameful. It is because if he gathered Ghanaians, call it the academia or Ghanaian professionals or Ghanaian businessmen and he talked about matters of concern to him, I’ll have no problem. He’s a former head of state and then for a very important opinion leader but to gather foreigners and try to paint Ghana black is just not acceptable”, the Senior Minister condemned in a short video clip.

But the NDC youth leader believes Mahama acted right as there was the need for the diplomats to be given the full picture.

“Prior to JM’s meeting with the Diplomatic Corps, President Akufo Addo & his government lied to the Diplomatic Corps that the violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon was orchestrated by the NDC.” The NDC youth leader wrote.

“What JM did was simply a remarkable show of leadership. He did not only present the truth but he also backed his presentation with video footages & other supporting documents.”.

“It does not lie with Osarfo Marfo or any of the NPP officials to determine anyone’s sense of patriotism, let alone that of JM. In any case, President Akufo Addo described this frontal impunity as an isolated case of violence, why is he disturbed that an isolated case was shown to the international community?” He added.

“The shameless attempt to cover up the state-sponsored terror attack on unarmed citizens will not wash. What happened at Ayawaso West Wuogon was NOT excesses of political vigilantism, it was a STATE SPONSORED ATTACK ON UNARMED CIVILIANS!!!” He said.
