ASWIM congratulates COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on promotion

The Association of Women in the Media (ASWIM) has congratulated the Director-General of the Criminals Investigations Department, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on her promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP).

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Madam Mavis Kitcher, the Interim President of ASWIM, said the Association received the news of the promotion with pride and excitement in recognition of her hard work over the years.

It said the feat had been achieved through the relentless pursuit of knowledge, courage and tenacity in ensuring that justice was brought to the doorsteps of the afflicted and that deviants in the society were put through interventions for reformation.

According to the statement, ASWIM was convinced that COP Addo Danquah’s elevation had placed her in a position to impact strongly on decisions for crime prevention and offer solutions to put the safety of all Ghanaians, particularly those that affected women and children at the core of policing.

“We are aware that this position comes with new challenges but have also not lost sight of her track record and trust that she would continue to surge forward to be an inspiration to women not only in the Police Service but to the larger society,” the statement added.

It noted that, there was no doubt that COP Addo-Danquah had the ability and determination to break the glass ceiling and make history in the ensuing years.

ASWIM, according to the statement, acknowledged the achievements of women in all strata of the society and recognised the myriad of challenges they had to surmount to achieve the balance the country craved and yearned for at all levels.

“Most importantly, ASWIM shares the belief that the achievements of sustainable national development depend on achieving gender equality, especially at the decision-making and governance levels,” it noted.

The statement called for the provision of more opportunities for women in education and employment to accelerate the socio-economic growth, saying, it had been proven that gender equality stimulates economic growth.
