APECGH maiden preeclampsia scientific meeting held

The Action on Preeclampsia Ghana (APEC GH), the sole preeclampsia working advocacy group in Ghana, has held its Maiden Preeclampsia Scientific Meeting to commemorate World Preeclampsia Day at the Amonoo-Neizer IDL Conference Centre, KNUST, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The event planning was led by preeclampsia researcher, Dr. Linda A. Fondjo, KNUST & Head of Research, APECGH.

The meeting held under the theme “Improving Management of Preeclampsia through Awareness, Research and Innovation” was chaired by Prof. (Mrs) Rita Akosua Dickson, the ProVC, KNUST.

This brought together clinicians, researchers, students and other health professionals to discuss matters of current interest and the way forward in the management of preeclampsia in Ghana.

Participants were drawn from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), University of Ghana Medical School (UG), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and other district hospitals and private health care facilities in the Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Eastern and Greater-Accra Regions.

There was a documentary on preeclampsia; followed by a preamble to the genesis of APEC GH, which was led by the Executive Director, Mrs. Koiwah Koi-Larbi Ofosuapea. Goodwill messages were delivered from GHS and APEC UK. Survivors of preeclampsia shared harrowing experiences that emphasized the enormity of this syndrome.
