AMOO VRS REBECCA ADOTEY COURT ORDERS AFARI-DJAN TO NULLIFY RESULT

An Accra High Court has ordered the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to appear before it on June 9 with the gazetted results of the disputed Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the December 7,1997 parliamentary elections to enable the court quash it.

The court, presided over by Mrs.. Agnes Dordzie, on Thursday, May 29, gave the order after agreeing with Mr.. Peter Ala Adjetey, counsel for Mr.. George Amoo, New Patriotic Party candidate in the December 7 elections, that indeed Amoo was directly affected by the constituency election, having contested as a candidate and establishing sufficient interest and thereby grounds for the application.

Amoo is praying the court to quash the official results declared on December 8 and gazetted on December19,1997, which made Mrs.. Rebecca Akweley Adotey of the NDC winner of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election.

He is also asking the court to compel NEC to collate the results of the actual votes cast in favour of each of the candidates in the constituency without recourse to a recount of the ballots and declare as the winner, the candidate to whom most votes were given at the said election
