AMA to close down Ghana Telecom

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) says it will close down the operations of Ghana Telecom in the shortest possible time if the Malaysian run company fails to honour its tax obligation to the Assembly.

The AMA said this has become necessary because of the pathetic attitude that the management of Ghana Telecom has adopted towards the payment of its outstanding debts of over three hundred million cedis to the AMA.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, Mr. Elliot Adom, stated that even though the AMA has given concessions to Ghana Telecom to settle its bills, they have ignored all attempts to do so.

The AMA says the Assembly needs such monies to provide efficient services in the city. It added that its action is not intended to frustrate any business in the metropolis neither does it have any political connotations attached to it.
