AMA Rehabilitates Odawna Lorry Station Again

Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has begun another rehabilitation of the Odawna Lorry Park in Accra, after spending 400-million cedis on the first rehabilitation in September 2000.

The cost involved in the second rehabilitation works, which has been necessitated by shoddy work done two years ago, had not been disclosed.

The lorry park has developed potholes that gathered pools of water and unsanitary conditions after the least rainfall.

Mr William Oppong Addo, Chairman of the Odawna GPRTU Welfare Committee, told the GNA on Monday that the committee had made several contacts with the AMA on the state of the park and problems faced by passengers and drivers.

He said AMA finally awarded the rehabilitation of the park to FACOL Roads Limited to commence work. It is expected to be completed in one week.

Mr Addo appealed to AMA and the construction company to expedite work to prevent traffic congestion.

Some of the passengers interviewed at the lorry park urged the AMA to consider constructing a better and well-planned lorry park such as the

Accra-Tema Station Lorry Park at Odawna to stop the waste of money.

The rehabilitation works had created confusion with passengers finding it difficult to locate vehicles going to their destinations.
