In a bid to increase safety for all roads users, particularly pedestrians, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has partnered with Belfast City Management to enforce clamping and tow-away services to stop drivers parking illegally on pavements and unauthorized roadsides in the OSU CLOTTEY and ASHIEDU KETEKE Sub-Metros within the Metropolis respectively from Monday the 20th of June 2016.

Inconsiderate and illegal parking on roads in these districts have increased over several years even though; legislation, public education, and road signs have outlined all no Parking Zones.

This situation has now reached a crisis with walkers, cyclists, and other road users being increasingly at risk.

The AMA has been exploring ways to prevent this dangerous and unauthorised road parking, and earlier this year entered into a partnership with Belfast City Management Ltd to tackle the problem. Belfast City Management is a limited liability Company duly registered under the Laws of the Republic of Ghana with the needed expertise and resources (human and equipment) to assist the Metropolitan Assembly to deal with this menace. The services which will be provided by Belfast City Management Company include vehicular clamping and tow away services within the designated sub-metros.

If an offender’s vehicle is clamped, he or she will need to follow the release instructions affixed to the vehicle .The clamp release charge must be paid before the vehicle is released.

Where an authorized parking results in an obstruction of the traffic or where the owner has not paid for the release of a clamp, the vehicle will be removed and taken to the vehicle pound yard at Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, opposite the Supreme Court Building on the JEA Mills High Street in Accra.
