AGC donates toward fight against HIV/AIDS

The Ashanti Goldfields Company has donated 18 million cedis to the Adansi West District Assembly to support its AIDS awareness programme and the district farmers day activities.

Mrs. Elaine Kwami, General Manager of the company in charge of Human Resources who presented a cheque for the amount said eight million cedis was meant for the HIV/AIDS programme, while the remaining ten million cedis would go to support the farmers day.

She said the AGC was very much concerned about the pandemic and that apart from the cash donation, the Company was sponsoring some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) whose activities were directed towards the intensification of the AIDS awareness campaign.

Mrs. Kwame announced that in line with the Company's commitment to join the crusade against the spread of the disease, an AIDS education programme had been instituted at the mines.

She reiterated the company's preparedness to assist the district assembly in its programmes designed to enhance the development of the district.

Touching on the Company's support to the district farmers day, Mrs. Kwami said "It is interesting that quite a number of our employees have been winning awards during such celebrations. Some of the workers spend their pleasure hours fruitfully working on their farms."

Mr. Joseph K. Boampong, the District Chief Executive who received the cheque on behalf of the assembly, expressed satisfaction about the level of co-operation between the assembly and AGC, saying a consultative committee between the two bodies had been formed to facilitate mutual understanding for the speedy development of the district.

He renewed the assembly's appeal to AGC to continue to support its programmes.
