AGA to support education development in Obuasi

Obuasi, March 24, GNA - Mr Kwasi Enyan, Managing Director of the Obuasi Mine of AngloGold Ashanti, has said the company has plans for educational development in the Obuasi Municipality.

He said education was key and that the company's Management would do whatever it could to be part of the educational success in the Obuasi area. The Managing Director was speaking during a courtesy call on him at his office by the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi. He was accompanied by Alhaji Kofi Mensah, the Public Relations Officer. Mr Enyan said the company had assisted education in various ways, but said the company would now change its ways of facilitating education by contacting the Municipal Education Office for its input. On his part, Mr Owusu-Boadi said the visit was part of his policy to meet all stakeholders in education to fashion out ways of sustaining the performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He said he would ensure continuous collaboration between his office and AngloGold Ashanti to help speed up quality education delivery in the Municipality.

Mr Owusu-Boadi said teachers in the Municipality needed to be rewarded for their hard work, but added that his administration would not tolerate laziness. The Municipal Director added that his policy was geared towards ensuring that the misuses of pupils' instructional hours was reduced to the barest minimum.
