AFRICANLIFE STYLES: Ex-President Rawlings On

HIV/AIDS has been equated to an African disease.Global media reportage on December 1, 2003 (World AIDS day) focused on the effects of this disease on the socio-economic development of Africa. The over 700 million people on the continent especially, those in sub-shara Africa are at the greatest risk.Even if it is not an exclusive disease for Africa as that the statistics could be compared to some developed countries, it is still a problem worth fighting against.

Tomorrom on Africanlife Styles, the TV programme co-produce with the Embassy of Ghana in Washington( with Pax TV , WPXW-TV) at 2.30pm, we feature the Gede Foundation. An international NGO devoted to HIV/AIDS prevention, the founder,Mrs. Jennifer Abubakar, wife of the Vice President of Nigeria(Atiku Abubakar) talks about the HIV/AIDS problem at a fund-raising event in Washington,DC.

The Guest speaker is Ghana's former President Jerry John Rawlings. Always passionate and with a blunt stance, Rawlings accuses both the leaders of the developing world and western democracies for doing little to mitigate the socio-economic and cultural cost of the disease. We also have on the programme the Zimbabwe ambassador to the United States His Excellency Simbi Mbako talking with Hilton Fyle, the co-host about the effects of the disease in Zimbabwe and how migrant workers came to be the most affected.Other studio guests include Dr. Peter Lamptey, President of the HIV/AIDS Institute of Family Health International and also a Director from Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, DC.

Africanlife Styles wishes you a happy week-end.
