An Environmental Assessment Training Course for USAID supported Private Voluntary Organizations in some selected African and Asian countries has opened at Tamale in the Northern Region. The five-day course is being organised jointly by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to give participants an insight into environmental management procedures and strengthen their developmental programmes. About 43 participants representing eleven private voluntary organizations in Ghana, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Chad, and Guinea Bissau are attending the course. The rest are from Bangladesh and Peru. Opening it, a Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Farouk Braimah, said since development activities have both direct and indirect effects on the environment, it is necessary for people and organisations to reduce the effect of their activities on the environment. gri
