Sources at the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) have confided in MyNewsGh.com that ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzor funded the alleged coup plotters while on United Nation (UN) mission in Mali.

He was also alleged to have provided security advice to the group which is contained in a transcript of WhatsApp chats which is a major subject for investigation for which reason he spent the night in the custody of the BNI.

The former Director of Police Operations was invited by the BNI on Monday, November 4, 2019 and is said to have reported at about 2pm but after several hours of interrogation he was detained.

He has since been charged with the offence of abetment of treason according to his Lawyer Martin Kpebu who confirmed his arrest and subsequent detention to the press.

Dr. Benjamin Agordzor’s current predicament has been described as witch-hunt and persecution over his outspokenness according to his lawyer.

“Essentially, they are holding him over WhatsApp messages. The fact that he was giving advice on lawful means of holding demonstration and donating towards a philanthropic course. They also say he said conditions for Arab spring are rife in Ghana, this something that most commentators on various issues have one point said before,” he revealed.

He added, "My client sees the case as a witch-hunt and persecution over his outspokenness. The way he spoke out at the IDEG event about how the police is not independent and the political interference in the service. This is not something he should be detained. He sees this case as a witch hunt, as persecution. At the IDEG event he had said the police is not independent”
