GNA - AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem (AAI) mine has inaugurated projects totaling GH¢ 434,469. 00 on its Community Trust Fund projects for the year 2015.
The projects which took 8 months to be completed include Junior High School block, Early Childhood Development Center, sanitary facilities, kitchen, 16 seater acqua privet toilets and rehabilitation of three toilet facilities.
Beneficiary communities include Abomponiso, New Techniman, Pepesa and Teberebie.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony which took place at Abomponiso in the Tarkwa Nsueam constituency, Professor Newton Amegbey, the Board Chairman of AAI community trust fund, said board members of the trust fund, in consultation with other development partners thought of providing these projects as part of their contribution to the beneficiaries concerned.
Mr. Amegbey emphasized that the JHS at Abomponiso will certainly fill the gap as Iduapriem mine to complement the efforts of government in education which was evident in all projects they have handed over to its host communities.
He expressed appreciation to African Mining Services (AMS) for providing dual desk, chairs, tables for teachers, cupboards and staff common room chairs for the school project at Abomponiso.
The board chairman said communities in the mine’s operational area have already submitted their proposals for the 2016 projects and processes for approval has started.
Mr. Amegbey urged communities benefiting from the sanitary facilities to cultivate the culture of maintenance to ensure that it last long to serve their purpose of intent and also to improve sanitation and hygiene in their host communities.
Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Sustainability manager of AAI mine trust noted that the fund been used to undertake projects to improve the well-being communities.
He said management of the firm would work closely with their communities and the Tarkwa Nsueam to ensure that they have a sustainable future.
Mrs. Veronica Ama Jackson, municipal education director and Nana Kofi Ntim, chief of Abomponiso thanked the company for the gesture.
