A self-confessed murderer surrenders to police

Wadie-Adwumakase (Ash), Nov 16, GNA - A 37-year-old farmer, ostensibly haunted by the act of killing his friend for refusing to pay back a loan he gave him, has surrendered to the police. Osei Kwadwo confessed to have shot his friend, Ahema Asante, in the abdomen on Tuesday resulting in his death later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The incident occurred following a quarrel between the deceased and Osei when the latter went to the deceased's house at Wadie-Adwumakase to collect a 2.2 million cedi loan the deceased owed him. Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on the incident, Police Inspector Mohammed Yussif Tanko of the Ashanti regional Police Public Relations Unit said Osei Kwadwo last year gave a loan of seven million cedis to the deceased.

He said the deceased paid back part of the loan but failed to pay back the rest and constantly gave the excuse that he was hard up. Inspector Tanko said the suspect, apparently fed-up with the tricks the deceased played on him, rushed to his house on that day and picked a quarrel with him.

In the heat of the quarrel the suspect, who was wielding a shot-barrel gun, shot him in the abdomen and fled. The sound of the gunshot attracted neighbours who took the deceased to the hospital where he died.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered himself to the police a day after the incident claiming that he was haunted by his friend's ghost.
