Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, has disclosed the significant personal loss he has suffered following the passing of his mother, Deborah Wengam.
During a solemn memorial service performed in her honor on Saturday, January 25, in the State House forecourt, Reverend Wengam reflected on the depth of his grief and described her loss as the most devastating event of his life.
In a deeply emotional tribute, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, recounted how his late mother had to endure pain in life after losing some of her children. He expressed eternal gratitude to his mother for the good training instilled in him which has positively shaped his life in his adulthood.
"Mum carefully shielded her emotions and was not too expressive of her tender side. She is a woman who has seen a lot of pain in her life following her ordeal of child loses. I can't imagine how she was dealing with life. She however instilled in me a sense of humility, proper behaviour and emotional intelligence and these have opened doors for me every where. A mother's love is eternal and I am eternally grateful to her for everything. She paid the price for me to become what I am today. She must have envisioned and kept secrets in her heart what I am today."
Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam noted that his mother's exemplary life has inspired him in to push further in life no matter the difficulties encountered.
"Her life has taught me that it is very important that we find our purpose in life. No matter how hard it gets we must fight our battles and keep our hope in good. Mum had good reason to quit life because of her persecution. People called her a witch, she had killed her children and that she was evil. Your test may be producing a testimony that will not only affect you, so let's take lessons from her life."
Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam stated that he will continue to live his life well and not disappoint his mother even in her death.
"I will forever be grateful to you, I owe you an infinite debt of thanks. I will cherish you in my heart forever. I will not disappoint you, I will exit this office with clean hands as you prayed for and advised."
