Farmers Day: Minority warns of crisis in farming and fishing sectors
In his address, President Mahama touched on the benefits of farming. He urged all Ghanaians, even those in formal employment to embrace agriculture as an additional source of income.
He noted that many professionals, including teachers, civil servants, and private sector workers, can successfully combine their regular jobs with farming.
“Agriculture isn’t only for the village folks; you can work and still be a farmer. Teachers and civil servants can go to work and have farms, and the money from the farm can supplement their incomes", he stated.
President Mahama also encouraged the adoption of modern farming technologies, irrigation, and improved seedlings to enable part-time farmers to be productive without needing to be physically present on their farms every day.
Farmers Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday of December in Ghana to honour the contributions of farmers and fishers to national development and food security.
The day is dedicated to appreciating their hard work and dedication, which are crucial for sustaining livelihoods and promoting economic stability across the country.
This year’s celebration was themed, “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future.”
