The Greater Accra Women Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Joyce Konokie Zimpare has indicated that about 80% of public sector workers who are wealthy acquired their wealth through corrupt practices.
Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda show hosted by Yaw Boakye Amofa and monitored by MyNewsGh.com said: “I will sit on your network and say that 80% of public sector workers, who are rich acquired their wealth through corrupt practices,” she alleged.
Her conclusion was premised on the fact that many young people, especially the graduate are looking for White Collar jobs in the public sector for reasons best known to them.
Sharing her recent disappointment in the Ghanaian youth, she said, she was contacted by a friend at ECOBANK that the bank is recruiting staff and so if she could submit some names for consideration which she did.
She continued that “after the successful training these people I’m talking about were asked to report and start working but they never reported so the person called me to inform me about what has happened.
“And when I contacted them to find out why they refused to take up the job and what they told me was that the bank wanted them to go and the work on the field so they are not going. I got the impression that what they wanted was to sit in the office and not to work under the scourging sun.”
Joyce Zimpare who condemned the behaviour of the persons in question noted that most unemployed youth in the country have the same mentality and urged them to change or remain unemployed.
