8 suspects arrested in connection with Ablekuma North rerun violence- IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has confirmed the arrest of eight persons in connection with violent incidents during the recent Ablekuma North rerun election.

Addressing a meeting between the leadership of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, he disclosed that the suspects were arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command and are being processed for prosecution.

“The Accra Regional Commander, as of yesterday, reported that eight suspects have been arrested. They are being processed, and based on advice from the Regional Commander, they will be brought before the court tomorrow or Friday.

“We are making progress, and we will ensure that justice is served for those who, in one way or another, failed to perform their duties professionally,” he said.

During the recent rerun held across 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North, three journalists and several political figures, including the former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, were assaulted.
