A total of 55,337 voters in the Asante-Mampong Constituency were registered in the just ended biometric voter registration conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Compared with the old electoral roll’s figure of 51,328, the area’s voter population increased by 4,009.
Mr Emmanuel Sackey, an official at the District Electoral Office, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the exercise was successful.
He said apart from few centres at Mprim, Apaa and Kyirimfaso, where thugs riding on motor bikes tried to cause confusion and disrupt the registration, it generally went on peacefully and smoothly.
He gave high marks to the Police for their swift response to restore calm at those flashpoints.
The nationwide 40 day registration was carried out in 98 centres in the constituency.**
