President John Dramani has underscored the need for a single-digit interest rate for agricultural financing.

According to him, affordable credit is essential for boosting food production and protecting the livelihoods of Ghanaian farmers.

Speaking at the 41st National Farmers' Day Celebration in Ho on Friday, December 5, 2025, President Mahama noted that high-interest loans have long been a problem for Ghanaian farmers.

He said making access to capital easier for farmers goes a long way toward strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.

"We must provide credit at single-digit rates so our farmers can grow to feed Ghana. Farmers should not be taking loans only to end up using all their profits to repay the banks,” he said.

He reassured Ghanaians of his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers through policies that reduce production costs, expand irrigation and mechanisation, improve market access, and modernise the agricultural value chain.

The 2025 Farmers' Day Celebration, which happens to be the 41st celebration, is on the theme 'Feed Ghana, eat Ghana, secure the future'
