A 40-year-old man, identified as Kofi Dagati, has been beaten to death by an angry mob at Takoradi Circle following an alleged theft attempt.
According to Ebenezer Manso-Cudjoe, District Chief Executive (DCE), reporting for Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the incident occurred amid rising tensions over local security.
Dagati reportedly scaled a wall into a private yard, unaware that the premises were under surveillance by a security guard.
Upon being confronted, a physical struggle ensued. During the altercation, Dagati allegedly pulled out a concealed pair of scissors and stabbed the guard several times in the head.
The suspect attempted to flee shortly after the incident but was intercepted by an angry mob.
He was beaten severely and left on the street.
The area has recently experienced a spike in criminal activity due to ongoing market renovations.
The construction has forced many traders to rent private spaces to store their wares, which have reportedly become frequent targets for burglars.
Residents and traders had repeatedly complained about persistent thefts before the fatal confrontation.
