40-year dev’t plan won’t restrict political parties – NDPC

The Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Dr Nii Moi Thompson has said the 40-year development plan that has been developed by the commission is not intended to restrict political parties.

According to him, the purpose of the plan is to serve as a guide to parties who assume the governance of the state and not to conscript them to any peculiar agenda.

Ghana has launched a 40-year development with the hope of constructing a long-term apolitical development strategy for the country. But some political parties have expressed fear the plan will clash with their individual agenda for the country should they win power.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Tuesday, the development expert said political parties who are minded to develop the country will find the national development plan profitable and complimentary.

“The long time plan by the definition and as a matter of practice is a framework or a guide so it doesn’t supplant the actual plans that political parties will prepare when they come to power.

“Each political party will always; whether we have a long term or not, will have to do a four-year development plan that they carry”.
