Over the period, many Ghanaians have flocked into some fast-food restaurants and have been thrilled with the meals served and services offered.

Unfortunately, some of these restaurants did not last the test of time and had to close down due to various reasons.

GhanaWeb takes a look at some of these restaurants that once used to be the leisure and food haven of many Ghanaians across the country.


Mr Biggs Restaurant

Mr Bigg's Restaurant opened in 2003 in Ghana and was popularly known for its yellow and red colour scheme logo. The restaurant served many Ghanaians with its fried rice and chicken meals and a special meat pie, which is a usual favourite for many who visit the place.

With four other locations in Ghana and its main branch located at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Mr. Biggs was owned by Nigerian conglomerate United African Company of Nigeria PLC. However, in 2013, Famous Brands from South Africa, bought a 49 percent stake in the chain.





Southern Fried Chicken

The Southern Fried Chicken (SFC) restaurant opened in Ghana in the year 2002 and was located in Tema and at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra. The once popular food provider at the time was said to be rated the best among 81 branches worldwide. The restaurant was mainly known for its special chicken meals that many Ghanaians loved. Southern Fried Chicken also served various embassies, hotels, restaurants, schools and many organisations across the country.

It was said to have sold 6,000 chickens regularly and 1,000 on special occasions every day to its customers. The food provider also had a burger producing machine that could also produce 2,000 burgers in an hour.




Chicken Inn

Chicken Inn was famous fast-food options that thrilled many Ghanaians with its fried chicken and French fries. It was renowned for serving special tasty fried chicken pieces and a wide range of other menu items including hand-cut chips made fresh daily, chicken burgers, slow-roasted rotisserie chicken, beef burgers and other favourites including Spicy Wingz, Chicken Bites and the pocket-friendly 2-piece meal.




Osu Food Court

Osu Food Court also known as the Monsoon Court is a popular eatery place located in Accra's Osu, on the Oxford Street. Many Ghanaians visited the place for snacks and drinks and enjoyed the ambience of the popular Oxford Street.
