313,097 public service workers migrated onto SSSS in 11 months.

Accra, July 7, GNA - The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has so far migrated 313,097 out of 470,000 public service workers onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) within the past eleven months. This constitutes 70 percent of the entire unions and associations in the country.

Mr Enoch Tei Mensah said this in Accra, at a press briefing on the migration of public workers onto the SSSS.

The conference was aimed at educating the unions and Association, as well as the general public, on the level of the migration. It follows the issuing of ultimatums by some labour unions and associations to the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to migrate them unto the SSSS and to resolve other related matters.

Mr Mensah noted that, the unions raised concern about the delay in migrating them onto the SSSS, the payment of salary areas, negotiation on Base pay and Pay Point Relativity, as well as, delayed negotiations on allowances classified as categories 2 and 3 allowances.

Base pay is the ultimatum salary on the SSSS and the Pay Point Relativity is the percentage differences between the pay points on the salary.

He said government was committed to ensuring that all unions and associations migrate to the SSSS, to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Mr Mensah noted that the delay of the allowances were as a result of the failure of unions to submit their comments, adding that, so far only the legal and Judicial Service and Education Non-Tertiary service groups had provided their comments on the rules of engagement.

He urged the leadership of the rest of the groups to submit their comments to the Commission, to enable them to begin the processes of negotiations on their allowances before they could be migrated.

It was also as a result of some institutions failing to submit their migration data for verification and also some of them implementing allowances, which had not been approved, with the fear that those allowances may not be accepted for purposes of migration, he explained.

He commended the leadership of those institutions that have helped the commission to migrate almost 70 per cent of the entire public service workers within eleven months and appealed to the leadership of the unions and associations, who are yet to be migrated, to co-operate with the commission.

Government, he said, had requested the commission to expedite action on the migration of the remaining 156,003 unions and associations, to help make the payment of arrears start by September this year,

This would enable the beneficiaries feel comfortable to contribute their quota to the development of the nation, he added.
