3 communities benefit from Project Maji clean water initiative

Three communities in the Eastern Region have been provided with potable drinking water systems to improve the health and well-being of residents in those areas.

The Chief Executive Officer of Project Maji, Sunil Lalvani on Saturday commissioned four solar panelled water projects for the Nkawkaw Denteng, Akwaboa and Hwiede communities in the Kwahu West constituency.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the three communities, Maji Sunil Lalvani who did a symbolic commissioning of the projects mentioned that the vision of Project Maji is to provide potable drinking water for the rural communities.

He acknowledged the progress made by the organization since its formation four years ago and reiterated their commitment to providing clean and wholesome water to rural communities.

“We have been running Project Maji for four years now in Ghana. We are trying to make sure we cover the whole country eventually. It is important to make sure the projects can be maintained. We have a team that is working locally so they can access the sites, that is why we chose these districts because we know we can look after it and we have tremendous support from the district and chiefs.

“Our primary aim is to provide water for these communities and that’s all. By the end of this year about 50,000 people will be served with drinking water through our project.
“We have provided water to about 35—40 communities in Ghana. We have another 10-12 communities more to served, he added.

Ebenezer Charway who represented the Ministry of Water Resources commended the Project Maji for the initiative which he said is in line with the government’s agenda of providing clean water for every Ghanaian.

Special aid to the Municipal Chief Executive, Ben Owusu Addo, also commended Project Maji for the provision of water for the deprived rural communities. He tasked the leaders in the community to form committees to manage the various sites to ensure the projects are put to good use.

The Krontihene of Denteng, Nana Kofi Yeboah expressed appreciation Project Maji for the water provided for the community.

The Presiding Member for Kwahu West, Boansi Darkwa, stated that the local assembly is going to ensure that the projects are maintained and kept well for the use by the communities.

The commissioning of the project was attended by the representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources, the Minicipal Chief Executive, chiefs and the people of the three communities
