3 customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana have been arrested in Dzodze in the Volta Region for illegally reconnecting power to their facilities.

The arrest was made by a joint Task Force made up of ECG staff and the Ghana Police Service set up to undertake night monitoring to prevent disconnected customers from reconnecting power at night.

The move forms part of a revenue mobilization campaign launched by the ECG in July 2018, intended to retrieve all debts owed by customers to enable the Company attain its revenue targets.

The defaulters, who were earlier disconnected for non payment of bills were made to pay debts owed ECG and a penalty for illegally reconnecting power to the tune of GH¢ 6,100.

Philip Dordonu, paid a total of GH¢ 3,131, Honest Royal Hotel paid GH¢ 2,531 while Togbe Akutu paid an amount of GH¢ 451.

The ECG Volta Regional General Manager, Ing. Delali Oklu, praised efforts of the Task Force and assured that the monitoring exercises would be intensified and expanded across the region.

"We are going to review the gains made in the first month of the campaign and restrategize to make this campaign more effective going forward", he said.

As part of the Revenue Mobilization Campaign, ECG staff are visiting all houses to assess the integrity of their electricity connections.

Staff will also be stationed in communities to receive payments from defaulting customers and disconnect customers who fail to settle debts.
