The Birim Central Municipal Director of Education, said on Friday that a total of 3,877 candidates from 99 public and private basic schools wrote the 2014 Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) in the municipality.
Mr Fred Kpool gave the breakdown as 2,566 boys and 1,311 girls who wrote the examination in seven centres.
He told Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda that all the candidates were present for the exams and expressed the hope that the results would be better than previous years.
Mr Kpool said over the years, the outcome of the BECE results had been very bad.
“Basic education is fundamental and compulsory for every child in Ghana. It provides the structure and formative systems where learning and acquisition of skills and knowledge take place,” he said.
