The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has charged the newly-sworn in Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Mrs Jean Mensa, and her team, to provide a clear direction on upcoming elections.

“CODEO believes that in view of the approaching 2019 district level elections, the 2020 general elections and other electoral activities, a clear road map should be developed to guide election administration in the near future,” National Coordinator of CODEO, Albert Arhin, noted in a statement on Thursday, 2 August 2018, in a congratulatory message.

Mrs Mensa, former Executive Director of the Institute of Economic, was sworn into office together with Deputy Chairpersons Samuel Tettey and Dr Bossman Eric Asare; and Member of the EC, Mrs Adwoa Asuama Abrefa on Wednesday, 1 August 2018.

CODEO said a clear plan must be made public for citizens of Ghana to appreciate the work ahead towards elections that will be held soon.

CODEO emphasised that: “The Commission must also revisit and continue with the electoral reforms (administrative and legal) agenda initiated a few years ago”.

CODEO added that it “hopes that the new leadership of the Commission will take concrete steps to ensure that, indeed, the Commission is dependable and accountable to the people of Ghana. The Commissioners must be fair and firm in their work, be team players, uphold integrity, be transparent and accountable in their dealings, and enhance public confidence in the Electoral Commission and its work”.

CODEO assured the EC of its readiness to work with them to deepen the integrity and credibility of election administration in Ghana, adding that the “Commission can always count on CODEO to support and safeguard credible electoral processes”.
