Did you know that this wasn’t the first time the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has met with King Charles III of England?
In 2018, during his visit to Ghana, the then Prince of Wales met several traditional leaders, including the Ga Mantse, as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the United Kingdom and Ghana.
The four-day visit formed part of a week-long West Africa tour to reaffirm Commonwealth relations.
Upon arrival, the Prince and his wife were hosted at the Jubilee House by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for discussions.
Fast forward to 2026, and the now King Charles III has met the Ga Mantse again in London, during the Commonwealth Day celebrations.
Visuals of the event showed the two kings, who were meeting for the first time since King Charles took over from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, exchanging pleasantries.
The two men were pictured with Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Commonwealth Secretary-General, who was holding her first Commonwealth Day celebration.
A statement on King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s participation in the Commonwealth Day activities said it was "a strategic convergence of influence, diplomacy, and cultural identity that can open meaningful pathways for the Ga State and Ghana as a whole."
It added that the gathering has real potential to strengthen cultural diplomacy and build institutional partnerships, positioning the Ga State as an active contributor to the Commonwealth’s multicultural dialogue, particularly between the Ga State and Buckingham Palace.
It also indicated that the Ga Mantse meeting the Olu of Warri, his longtime friend, reinforces regional and historical ties among West African kingdoms and also creates opportunities for collaboration on cultural, economic, and traditional leadership.
The statement added that "for the Ga Mantse, these engagements transcend symbolism to reflect a leadership style rooted in openness, partnership, and long-term vision.
