Two young men are before a magistrate court for allegedly stealing GH¢ 6,000 belonging to an Accra based businessman.

Ben Adedzi and Gbago Sunday Akinwuni were charged on two counts of abetment of crime and stealing when they appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo.

They are to remain in police custody for further investigations.

The case was adjourned to May 22, 2017.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Lois Konadu said the complainant Zukalim Seidu is a business man, while Adedzi is a driver and Akinwuni, also a businessman.

She said on Wednesday, December 23, 2016, a witness in the case contacted Seidu and told him that he had been sent by Adedzi to take his phone number and also to ask him the exchange rate of CFA Franc to the cedi.

The witness accordingly informed Adedzi. Not quite long, Akinwuni, using a private number called Seidu that he had GH¢ 6,000 to exchange to its equivalent in CFA Franc.
According to Sergeant Konadu, at about 6.00p.m., the private number called Seidu again and directed him to a cab parked in front of a bank at Tudu.

Seidu quickly went to the cab as directed and met Akinwuni sitting in the back seat of the cab.

Sergeant Konadu said Akinwuni gave the GH¢6,000 to Seidu in exchange for 880 CFA Franc. But when Seidu later checked the cedis given to him, he realised they were fake.

She said the matter was reported to the police for assistance and Adedzi was arrested.

On February 24, 2017, Seidu spotted Akinwuni at Tudu and identified him as the one who allegedly gave him the fake notes.

Sergeant Konadu said with the help of the public, Akinwuni was arrested and handed over to the police but Akinwuni denied the offence in his caution statement.
