2 arrested for car break-ins

Two persons have been arrested by the Osu Police for allegedly breaking into cars parked at Osu area to steal items.

They are Moses Appiah, 46-year-old businessman and George Lamptey, 44-year-old welder.

The suspects are also alleged to be behind the training of other young men, who are often dispatched every night to break into victims’ cars to steal various items.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Osu District Police Crime Officer, ASP Richard Daplah, said the police often receive complaints of theft in the area.

“The arrest of the suspects has been a great relieve to us,” he said.

The command has received numerous complaints of theft of laptops, mobile phones, bags and other valuables in parked cars belonging to revelers, who patronise the services of restaurants, fast food joints and night clubs in the area.

Items have also been stolen from cars parked at churches in the area.

On May 2017, the police received a complaint from a man whose items were stolen from his car after he patronised a drinking spot with his friends in the area.

Some of the items stolen from the car included a bag containing his personal effects, documents, wallet and other items.

A police motor patrol team around 1am that fateful day spotted Appiah and Lamptey in a car with a number of bags.

They fumbled when the police posed questions.

The suspects were subsequently arrested and transported to the police station.

One of the victims identified a bag among the belongings of the suspects.

Two other victims were later called, and they also identified some items in the possession of the suspects.

When the rooms of suspects were searched at Kasoa and Larterbiokoshie respectively, the police found more bags, laptops and other items.

The suspects are still in police custody assisting in investigations.

Meanwhile, ASP Daplah has appealed to people to contact the Osu Police to identify their items and also assist in investigations.
