The Ashanti regional director of the Ghana road safety commission Mr Samuel Asiamah has confirmed to the media that, the commission has recorded 1,028 lorry and motor accidents cases.
The accidents claimed 152 lives and 970 victims sustained various degree of injuries from January-June 2017 representing 25% per cent increase as compelled to 919 accidents cases on first half of the year 2016.
He said 333 people were knocked down by lorry and motor bikes as compared to 227 recorded last year 2016.
He however maintained that, most of these accidents happened within Akomadan-Offinso road, Juaso-konongo- Kumasi road, Obuasi-Anwiankwanta-Bekwai- Kumasi road and Kumasi metropolis, Pravite cars and motor bikes recorded higher percentage of the accidents.
Mr Samuel Asiamah was speaking to the media today at his office as part of measures to educate the public on the need to prevent accidents on our roads.
He appealed to stakeholders in the country to join the efforts in reducing accident related deaths on our roads
