Awudu Gariba, a 14-year-old candidate for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), tragically passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, after collapsing at the Adiembra Examination Centre in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

According to reports, Awudu, a student of Nnuanua Number 1 Basic School, had begun showing signs of illness during the examination the previous day. He was sent to the Assin Adiembra CHPS compound for treatment.

However, due to the ongoing strike by nurses, he was not attended to.

On Friday, June 13, Awudu collapsed during the first paper of the day. He was rushed to the Assin Fosu Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead.

“Arrangements are being made to officially inform Awudu’s parents about the tragic incident,” Mr. Opoku was quoted as saying by CitiNewsroom.com.

Frederick Agyei, headteacher of Nnuanua Number 1 Basic School, recalled that Awudu had exhibited signs of illness during the examination the day before.

He expressed sadness over the loss, emphasized the school’s efforts to seek timely medical assistance, and urged the community and fellow students to remain calm during this difficult time.
