121 candidates contest for 27 seats in G/R

Accra, Oct 28, GNA - One hundred and twenty-one Parliamentary candidates filed at the close of nomination on October 17 to contest for the 27 seats in the Greater Accra Region, Mrs. Philomena Adusie, Deputy Regional Director told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday. Statistics made available to the GNA indicate that 103 male and only 18 female are contesting for the 27 Parliamentary.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are contesting for all the 27 seats; the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) filed for 26 seats; Peoples National Convention (PNC) and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) 13 seats each. The rest were; Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) five; New Vision Party (NVP) two and Independent Candidates nine.

The oldest candidates were; 71-year old, Sheikh Ibrahim Codjoe Quaye, NPP candidate for Ayawaso Central; 68-year old, Mr Francis Kojo Smith of the NPP candidate for Ablekum South; and 64-year old Mr Aaron Michael Oquaye, NPP Dome-Kwabenya.

The youngest contestants for the region were; 26 year old, Mr Daniel Danquah an Independent candidate for Ayawaso East; 27-year old, Mr Emmanuel Oddoye Junior of CPP and 28-year old, Mr Isaac Adjevor of the PNC both contesting for Odododiodoo seat. male and 16 female.

The NPP and NDC contested for all the 27 seats, PNC 14 seats; CPP 25 seats; EGLE Party two seats; Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) two DPP five; National Reform Party two and 21 Independent candidates.
