11% electricity hike: Akufo-Addo must apologise to Ghanaians - Agalga

James Agalga, Builsa North MP James Agalga, Builsa North MP

The Member of Parliament for Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region, James Agalga has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to apologize for 'misleading' Ghanaians.

He does not understand why the ruling administration claim to be 'better management of the economy yet fuel prices, electricity tariffs and others keep going up'.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an 11.7 percent upward electricity tariff adjustment.

According to the Commission, “the key objective of the tariff review was to sustain the financial viability of utility service providers as well as ensuring the delivery of quality service to consumers.”

But speaking on Joy Newsfile programme Saturday, James Agalga said the way the NPP played politics with tariff increment before they came into office, he wasn't expecting an increment in their tenure.

"Our economy is still having challenges, prices are soaring, and yet wages have remained stagnant…under his watch we were expecting that there wouldn’t be an increase in electricity tariff. Ghanaians are suffering; let president Akufo-dado be reminded that Ghanaians are suffering…this government; the President has benefitted with the politics of tariffs; today the reality has dawned on him; let him apologize to the good people of this country that he misled us…the people of this country are demanding an apology. They told us they could manage the energy sector better" he intimated.
