The commercial motorcycling (Okada) business may soon be fully regularised following Parliament’s passage of the Road Traffic Amendment Bill, popularly known as the 'Okada' Legalisation Bill.

While many Ghanaians had previously called for a ban on Okada operations, the development has sparked renewed debate about what the new law means for riders and the public.

GhanaWeb TV on December 12, 2025, visited parts of Accra to gauge Okada riders’ reactions to the bill’s passage.

Those who spoke to the team expressed excitement and urged the government to expedite the process by assenting to the bill, so they can operate legally without fear of harassment.

Riders emphasised that many of them have families to support, and full legalisation would not only secure their livelihoods but also prevent frequent police seizures of their motorcycles.
