An unemployed physically challenged graduate has appealed to the government to address systemic barriers preventing persons with disabilities from securing decent jobs.
Speaking during a protest on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, organised by the Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities, she described the emotional and financial toll of prolonged unemployment on her life.

“I go through a lot. I always get depressed because can you imagine someone who can’t see and you’re always in their house depending on people? It’s so embarrassing at my age. I’m 27 years old, and I have to pick up my phone and call people; to use the word 'beg' before I can get money", she stated.
According to her, the situation has left her struggling to meet basic needs, like paying rent.
“Sincerely, my rent will be due very soon. I can’t go back to my family house and share with them in my situation, and I need to maintain myself. Living on my own is very expensive, food, and I also have to take care of myself as a woman. Buying sanitary pads, cosmetics, and all that—it’s very difficult,” she lamented.
The Association is demanding a clear roadmap for unemployed graduates with disabilities in Ghana and the full implementation and enforcement of the employment quota provided for persons with disabilities across the regions.
